Narrative

Upon arriving at a Hippo-therapy location, Fox Lake Farms i came to a place of green pastures and horses.  One of my duties upon volunteering included grooming
Cherry, a 38 year old mustang
was the first horse i encountered.  Grooming is not a simple task to complete.  The process is much more difficult than anticipated.  The first step is to tie Cherry up to the grooming post.  In order to begin i grabbed the bucket full of grooming supplies and began making cherry a clean horse once again.  Cherry is a large horse with a coat like no other.  I grabbed the curry comb first and began to tackle her coat.  After getting the coat out of a mangled mess in which it was when i first began i went on to tackle her main and tail.  Her main and tail felt like wire and involved a lot of time brushing through the mangled mess with a tail comb to make them nice and smooth.  aside from working with the body i went on to clean the bottoms of the hooves with a hoof pick.
This happens to be the grossest part of the job.  to me picking out manure and other particles out of hooves is not exactly appealing.
